Maintaining healthy skin can become trickier as we get older, and you may notice wrinkles and sagging skin setting in.
The reason behind this is a loss of collagen and elasticity, and reduction in the size of the facial fat pads due to either ageing or sudden rapid weight loss.
Luckily, there’s a way to combat the impact of ageing and it’s called collagen biostimulators. At Blush we are experienced using both Radiesse and Ellanse. These types of products increase the thickness of the skin by stimulating collagen production and may be strategically combined with traditional hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler for the best results.
What is Ellanse?
Ellanse and Radiesse are both semi-permanent types of dermal filler which acts to both volumise and stimulate process new collagen production.
The main difference between this treatment and normal fillers is that it encourages your skin to produce more collagen so that when the product reduces down over time, your collagen is replacing that volume loss naturally.
Both Radiesse and Ellanse consist of microsphere particles embeed in a sugar gel (carboxymethyl cellulose gel). The gel carrier plumps and fills the skin immediately, then dissolves over a period of months. Ellanse contains polycaprolactone (PCL) microspherules and Radiesse contains calcium hydroxyapatite crystals and these particles trigger fibroblast cells within the dermis to generate new collagen so the volume added to the face is maintained for much longer. The results are long lasting from one to three years.
Radiesse and Ellanse are excellent products for the jawline, cheeks, below the mouth and can be used in a diluted form in the neck, chest and backs of the hands.
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is a calcium hydroxyapatite injectable dermal filler that contains smooth, uniform calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres (diameter of 25-45 um) suspended in an acqueous carboxymethylcellulose gel carrier.
The gel gradually dissipates leaving the calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres at the injection site where they induce long term collagenesis.
It is considered a long-lasting, but non-permanent filler and is highly biocompatible with human tissue.
What is the difference between the collagen biostimulators (Radiesse & Ellanse) and normal dermal fillers?
They different from other fillers, as they give the desired beautiful aesthetic result that lasts longer than conventional dermal fillers, they also produce less filling effect than hyaluronic acid dermal filler as the main effect is to firm and thicken the skin.
Ellanse and Radiesse are different from hyaluronic acid dermal filler, because they are made from microspheres which dissolve in a unique way.
These biostimulators provide immediate correction that is gradually followed by new tissue formation through new collagen and new elastin production.
Who are collagen stimulators suitable for?
Ellanse dermal fillers are suitable for men and women who want to provide more volume to their skin, reduce the effects of ageing and look younger and more lifted.
How many Ellanse treatments will I need?
Ellanse treatment is a quick, non-invasive procedure and you’ll only need one session.
Does Ellanse have EMA and FDA approval?
Yes, Ellansé is CE and FDA approved so it has been through extremely stringent regulation and testing. This product benefits from clinical experience on safety and a very low adverse events rate.
What are possible Ellanse side effects?
Ellanse filler may come with several side effects, such as:
- Swelling and redness
- Pain and stinging sensations around the injection area
- Bleeding at the injection spot
- Numbness or itching
These side effects will usually go away within a matter of hours or days. But if they last for longer, then we advise you to contact us.
It’s also important to note that you shouldn’t have the treatment if you have a history of allergic reactions, auto-immune conditions, skin inflammation, are receiving steroid treatment or if you’re pregnant
What aftercare is recommended after a collagen biostimulator treatment?
- Ice packs can reduce possible bruising.
- Wait until any injection-related symptoms are gone to see the final result.
- Avoid applying makeup to the treated area for the next 24 hours after treatment.
- Avoid vigorous exercise, hot bath, sun and heat exposure for 3 days.
What happens to Radiesse that has been injected over time?
The calcium hydroxyapatite crystals are gradually broken down into calcium and phosphate ions and eliminated through the body’s normal excretory processes. All of the components in Radiesse are therefore fully metabolised over time.
